Narrative of the Young Shepherd

At the center of the mesmerizing rolling hills, dwelt a young shepherd. His life was mostly untarnished, simple, and honest. His main role was to tend to his herd of ewes.

Their soft bleating and the murmuring of the breezes across the single tree on the peak were his main co-dwellers. Day upon day, looking out for his wards imbued in him a notion of quiet fulfillment.

But, there were the occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. On one such day because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy devised website a mischievous plan.

Stories of predators preying on sheep had long been circulating in the town. So, the boy decided to exploit this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.

One morning he ran into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf that has taken my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but discovered no beast.

The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This game continued for a couple of more days. But, one noon, a real wolf did charge at the flock. The shepherd boy raced for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the village only to receive a scolding on honesty and the consequences of crying wolf.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once lost, is difficult to reclaim. It's a story as pertinent today as it was then.
